CHITRAL: The bail before arrest (BBA) application of three officials of the Communication and Works (C&W) Department was rejected by a court in a corruption case here.

After the rejection of the application, the officials were arrested by the police and taken to the district jail. According to police inspector Afar Ahmad, who is the in-charge of the Anti-Corruption police Chitral, an FIR had been registered against the officials and contractors of the C&W department on the charge of embezzling funds allocated for the construction of Sweer, Torkhow and Mulkhow roads. He said divisional account officer Abdul Salam, sub-engineer Abdul Jalil and sub-engineer Mohammad Khan had got BBA from the local court. When they were produced in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Jamal Khan on Tuesday, their plea for extension in the BBA was rejected. The Anti-Corruption police had also arrested retired superintending engineer Syed Jalaluddin Jan, executive engineers Nazir Ahmad, Fazal Khaliq, sub-engineers Fazal Mabood, Hafizul Asad, Ghulam Jail, account officer Raham Badshah, contractors Qazafi Habibur Rehman andAbdul Muzafar Khan in the corruption case and were sent. About Rs.5,098,305 have so far been recovered from these officials and contractors.
