Islamabad with two win against Gilgit Baltistan and FATA

Peshawar—Peshawar White stunned Punjab White in the final of the match of the league round by securing first position with 12 points after winning all matches in the National Junior Under-20 Boys Hockey Championship played here at Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium on Monday.
Peshawar White secured victories against Punjab White, Islamabad, Gilgit Baltistan, and FATA, Punjab remained at second with 9 points by winning matches against Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and FATA, Islamabad with two win against Gilgit Baltistan and FATA and two lost against KP White and Punjab White took 6 points, got third position. FATA remained at fourth with one win against Gilgit-Baltistan and lost three matches by securing three points. Gilgit-Baltistan got fifth position with no points played four matches and lost all.
In the last match Peshawar White stunned Punjab White by 2-0 in a thrilling encounter. The two teams were tied a goal-less draw in the first two quarters and it was the third quarter in which Khyber Pakhtunkhwa White took the lead through full-back Zahid who sounded the board with his forceful hit.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa took the lead in the third quarter and forced another goal in the last quarter when Junaid, the inside left, netted a fine goal before dodging three defenders in a row.
After taking 2-0 lead, KP White put in more pressure but they were not allowed by Punjab White half-line and deep defenders to score more goals. On the other hands Punjab White took five penalty corners but none of them could be proved productive due to poor handling. Thus KP White won the match by 2-0.
Vice President Pakistan Hockey Federation Muhammad Saeed Khan was the chief guest on this occasion who gave away winner trophy to the winners and runners-up.
He also gave Rs. 10,000 as cash prize to the winner and Rs. 5000 to the runners-up team on behalf of KP Hockey Association. Tournament Director and two time Olympian Musaddiq Hussain, Additional Commissioner Afghan Refugees Waqar Maroof, Secretary KP Hockey Association Syed Zahir Khan, President and Secretary Peshawar District Hockey Association Hidayat Ullah Khan and Ayaz Khan, Haji Nawar Khan, Academy coaches Yasir Islam and Zia Binori, umpires Haroon Khan (PAF), Afsar Khan (Wapda), international umpire Ameer Hamza (PAF), technical officials Master Khan, Usman, Tehsin Ullah were also present during the presentation ceremony.
KP White and Red teams will be leaving for Lahore on March 2 , 2016 to participate in the forthcoming National Junior Hockey Championship to be played in Lahore.—APP
