Dudoshal: Search operation expedited after attack on police

GILGIT: Police on Monday expedited search operation against outlawed in Gilgit – Baltistan’s [G-B] Diamer valley following attack on a police team.

At least two men, Riaz Khan and Amanullah, were injured on Sunday after a police team, led by Diamer superintendent police [SP] Rauf Qaisarani, was ambushed in Dudoshal valley of Diamer. “The police had gone into the valley to hunt the outlawed wanted in murder cases,” a police official told Outpost on Monday.

“The criminals were those involved in tribal feuds in the valley and courts had issues sentences for them already,” he said, requesting anonymity as he wasn’t authorized to speak to media.

The injured policemen were immediately shifted to a hospital in Chilas – headquarter of Diamer valley – where their condition was stated to be out of danger.

“There were reports about presence of several absconders in the Dudoshal valley which prompted police action,” said another police official in Chilas.

According to the official, outlawed hidden in safe places in the area, attacked the police when they entered the valley. He said they have reports suggesting the criminals have gone up the mountains to avoid arrest.

According to SP Qaisarani, the operation was launched to arrest the criminals declared proclaimed offenders by courts in the past. “We had information that some of the criminals were hiding in the area,” SP told reporters.

“The operation will last till arrest of last criminal in the area,” he vowed.

In the past law enforcement agencies, backed by local elders, blew up five houses of criminals in parts of Diamer valley after DSP Attaullah and his subordinate Haleem were ambushed and killed and injuring three other policemen.
