A  session entitled “ Youth Activism in Democracy and Education” was held at Henrich Boll Foundation office in Gulberg Lahore.

The session was organized by Henrich Boll Foundation with the collaboration of Interactive Resource Centre and Mountain Youth Resource Organization(Gilgit Baltistan).

 

The session was especially designed for Gilgit Baltistan youth activists who are playing vital role in political and democratic process of the region.

A large number of youth from Gilgit Baltistan with different educational and political backgrounds participated in the session.  Didar Ali, Chairman Gilgit Baltistan Youth Council(GBYC) along with the executive committee of GBYC also participated in the event. The session was categorized in three parts.

In the first part  Saima Jasam, Officiating Country Director Henrich Boll Foundation(HBF)  briefed the participants about the history, role and activities of HBF.A four minutes short documentary film was also shown by HBF on democracy.

In the second part two documentary films  were screened namely as “ The Invisible Democrats” and “ Pakistan Youth”.  The film “ The Invisible democrat” was about the role of transgender in the electoral process and also depicted the problems faced by them in daily life.

 

“Pakistani Youth” was about the different political youth wings and how the young leaders see the manifesto of their parties. Both films are produced by Interactive Resource Centre(IRC) and Directed by Nisar Ahmed a filmmaker hailing from Gilgit Baltistan who is working as Media Manager with IRC.

The last session was conducted by Clarrisa Leopold , A student of Munich University. Clarrisa shared her experience about Pakistan and the research she did on  documentary filmmaking and human rights. She acquainted youth about the educational opportunities in Germany and how one can avail DAAD scholarship for higher education.

At the end Amjad Ali from Mountain Youth Resource Organization thanked all the organizers and participants. Participants appreciated the effort of the Organizers and said such events can play a vital role to aware youth about Democracy and Human rights.
