GILGIT:  At least three people were killed and nine others injured on Thursday as explosive went off in a van in the outskirts of Gilgit.

The incident occurred at about 5.30pm near Alam Bridge, about 45 kilometers from Gilgit.

“There is a report of a blast in a van. We have initial reports of three deaths and five injuries in the incident,” said a police in Gilgit. However hospital sources said the number of injured is nine including four women and three kids.

The car was heading towards Haramosh area from Gilgit when the incident occurred.

According to locals, the injured were shifted to district headquarter hospital Gilgit for treatment.

The interior ministry, days before this incident, warned G-B government about possible terrorist attacks on passengers on Karakoram Highway [KKH], asking government to tighten security in the town.
