Pakistan Day celebrated in Gilgit – Baltistan

GILGIT: Two residents of Gilgit – Baltistan received presidential awards for their exceptional work as G-B marked the historic Pakistan Resolution Day on Monday.

Governor G-B Barjees Tahir in a ceremony held at governor house presented Tamgha-e-Imtiaz to spoy Mir Nawaz [Junior] and ‘Presidential award for best performance’ to Didar Ali.

Mir Nawaz, a resident of Naltar valley of G-B, excelled in the sport of skiing. He remained associated with G-B Scouts as spoy and won several awards for the country due to sheer hard work and commitment.

Likewise Didar Ali hails from Hunza valley who was presented the award for keeping the art of handicraft and embroidery alive. His products were put on display in various exhibitions over the past 15 years.

“The day reminds us of the sacrifices made by our forefathers for a separate country,” said governor after hosting national flag. “We are happy the day is being celebrated across the country after seven years.”

The ceremony was attended by caretaker chief minister Sher Jehan Mir and senior civil and military officials.

Earlier a 21 gun salute marked the beginning of the day that marks the birth of a separate homeland for Muslims.
