The historical name of Gilgit-Baltistan is Balawaristan, in antiquated English it was spelled asBoloristan. In 8th century AD, the first documented usage of Balwaristan was made in Chinese, and regained some dominance in current years. The regions included in Gilgit-Baltistan are Hunza, Yasin, Ishkoman, Gilgit and Skardu. By the national parties of Gilgit considers LadakhChitral and Baltistan a part of Balawaristan. Three different theories of this region were introduced as according to one theory Balawaristan was historically been referred to as Balwars, which has come from the word Bala that means high, an indication to the high-altitude ubiquitous in this area and on the other hand according to the second theory it is said that it was named to a mythic ancient king called Bolor Shah, who actually first united the region and the last theory was projected by the National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research of Pakistan, according to their point of view the name was derivative from the titlePatola, he was the Buddhist royal dynasty and was prevailing in the region.

 

 BALAWARISTAN

The Baltistan region was historically recognized as “Great Bolor “and “Dardistan” while the parts of Brooshal were known as “Little Bolor”. In early time period, Balawaristan National Front was in the search of independence from Pakistan as these groups state that they were dissimilar from Pakistan and Kashmir in all aspects and they were facing the problem of incorrectly associated disputed region ofJammu and Kashmir. Then in no time the Balawaristan National Front unambiguously definite its goal as “freedom from Pakistan’s illegal occupation”. In May 1999, the Supreme Court of Pakistan feint that this region “is a disputed territory and the government of Pakistan has no claim over it”.

More than a few Balawar leaders disputed that because the natives of the region do not have relative illustration in the Pakistani assembly as the local nation have been demanding for years, therefore the law of Pakistan should not be applied. In April 2008, the demand was raised by the Balawaristan National Students Organization to compose Balwaristan as the fifth province of Pakistan as the other four are Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Punjab and Baluchistan.
