Four-day training for journalists starts in Hunza Valley

Hunza, 26 May: A Four-day advanced journalism training workshop for journalists began here from Monday. The training is jointly being organized by renowned citizen journalism group “Pamir Times” and Impassion Media Lahore and around 18 journalists from Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral are participating.

Senior and junior journalists who contribute to Pamir Times have been invited to attend the training, being held in collaboration with Impassion Media

Renowned Pakistani journalists Asif Farooqi and Zafar Syed from BBC Urdu service are facilitating. Topics of the training include basic journalism, advanced news writing techniques, feature writing, investigative journalism and photo journalism.

“The training aims to provide capacity building opportunities to the journalists, to enhance their existing skills and to promote more professional journalism in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral” said Pamir Times’s Coordinator Zulfiqar Ali Khan in his opening remarks. He said a basic journalism training workshop was also conducted by Pamir Times and Impassion Media in Islamabad in Janruary which was attended by around 23 journalists from Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral.

Renowned Pakistani journalists Asif Farooqi said that this would be an interactive training workshop and focus would be given on practical work and exercises so that participants could be able to get maximum benefits.

Many of the participants are citizen journalists He took the first day session on basic journalism and discussed importance of news, story structure, four para rule and other topics. While BBC Urdu’s Language Editor Zafar Syed discussed tools of powerful writing in detail.
