Army taekwondo players continue to dominate with 20 golds

KARACHI: Defending champions Army on Monday looked poised to retain the overall trophy with a rich harvest as they took their tally to 20 gold medals and finished way ahead of their opponents on the penultimate day of the National Taekwondo Championship being held at the NED University of Engineering and Technology gymnasium .

The soldiers, who swept all the 14 golds that were at stake in different poomsae men and women categories, made their mark by picking up another six of the eight golds that were decided on Sunday night.

While the Army women players proved too good by claiming -46kg, -53kg, -62kg and +73kg golds, men’s team could win two of the four events in -80kg and -87kg through Afnan and Asim respectively.

Haroon Khan and Arsalan Khan did Wapda proud by capturing the -58kg and -68kg gold medals respectively.

In all, 34 gold medals are at stake in the competition which concludes on Tuesday.
