The Gilgit-Baltistan government has requested the federal government to send five additional platoons of Frontier Constabulary (FC) to help arrest precarious security situation in the region.

Through a letter sent on April 1, the GB home department requested the interior ministry to arrange five additional platoons of FC to the area, which has experienced violence, including sectarian and terrorist attacks, in the past.
“Law and order situation in GB remains vulnerable due to sectarian strife and terrorist attacks,” states the letter. According to it, the GB will need reinforcements to ensure smooth holding of the upcoming elections.
The letter pointed out that the federal government had exclusively raised 10 FC platoons for Gilgit-Baltistan region who drew their salaries from GB, but five platoons had been withdrawn by the federal ministry of interior in March, 2013 in the light of a verdict of the Peshawar High Court.
