PESHAWAR: Since its establishment in 2009, the Government Girls Degree College Booni had been facing many problems, including the shortage of teachers and permanent principal and the lack of basic facilities such as hostel and drinking water.

HunzaNews, Sept 14,2014

The issues were brought into the notice of the authorities concerned from time to time but all in vain. Recently, the PTI government introduced teacher assistants through ETEA, but due to the strike of the provincial government the selection process suffered a delay. Against the insufficient staff the students of the college had given twice notices to the concerned authorities like education department, district administration and the tehsil administration and warned of a strike after the deadline.

Talking to ChitralToday, Information Secretary of Chitral Students’ Association, Zafar Ahmad, said despite the notices of strike from the students their issues were ignored, especially by the education department, which showed no interest towards resolving the issues. He further said that due to lack of DDO authority the college could not hire teachers. Responding to the notices of students, MPA Upper Chitral and Assistant Commissioner Menhaj Uddin showed personal interests in resolving the issues of the students. The assistant commissioner accepted the additional responsibility of the DDO and along with the cooperation of MPA Sardar Hussain the college were provided staffs. The MPA assured the college staff of his full cooperation and support.

The representative of Chitral Students’ Association told ChitralToday that on behalf of the students, staff of the college and the local community, they were extremely thankful to the MPA and the assistant commissioner Subdivision Mastuj and that without their support the issues would have never been addressed! The Students’ Representative further said that we are hopeful the MPA’s next support will be the provision of facilities for girls at hostel!
