 PMLN delegation from Gilgit-Baltistan calls on President Mamnoon Hussain

ISLAMABAD (PR): President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday said the Pak-China Economic Corridor would usher in a new era of socio-economic development in the region and open new vistas of opportunities especially for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. He said the corridor would not only generate tremendous economic opportunities, but would also be instrumental in further promoting tourism potential of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).The President was talking to a delegation of notables from Gilgit-Baltistan here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. President Mamnoon said the government was committed to the uplift of GB, and was taking various measures for its development and the socio-economic betterment of people.

pre_hajifida_bookReferring to his recent visit to China, he said his meetings with the top Chinese leadership focused on prioritization and early completion of those projects, which had direct and immediate benefits for the people of this region.

The President said the completion of dams in the area would directly benefit the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and also help in overcoming the current challenge of energy shortage in the country.

Discussing overall situation in the country, he said the government was faced with various challenges, including the issue of militancy and terrorism, revival of economy and energy shortage, and was taking all possible measures to address them.

Those, who were present during the meeting, included among others Muhammad Barjees Tahir, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Haji Ibrahim Sanai, Sultan Ali Khan, Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, Amina Ali, Tahir Shigri, Haji Shamsher Ali, Muhammad Sabit Khan, Abdul Wahab, Suleman Asad, Haji Fida Mohammad Nashad and others.

Minister Barjees Tahir, in his remarks, highlighted various issues pertaining to Gilgit-Baltistan and the efforts afoot to address them.

Later, the meeting turned into an interactive session where the participants highlighted the issues being faced by the people in health and education sectors.

The participants also invited the President to visit Gilgit-Baltistan during the Silk-Route Festival.
