Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for water and power, Khawaja Asif, other top officials and public representatives were present on this occasion.

The first 95 MW unit of the project has already started power generation and it was formally inaugurated today.

This first unit was completed in just seven months and started supplying 95 MW to the national grid system.

The Nandipur power project has four units and more than 60 percent physical work on the second 95.4 MW unit had already been accomplished and hopefully will start generation in July, while the project would be completed by December and the last unit will generate 134 MW electricity, thus making a total of 425 MW generation from the entire project.

This project was completed in time and efforts were being made to convert the project from currently furnace oil to gas and work on this programme would be carried out next year.

The drastic steps were taken by the present government to cope with energy crisis on emergency basis.

The project was delayed due to the policies of the previous government and also cost billions of rupees to the national exchequer.
