Obituary: Abdul Hameed, renowned media person, artist from Gojal Valley, passes away in Gulmit

Abdul Hameed, a renowned media person and founding member of Nreuu Productions Gulmit, passed away as a result of heart attack in his hometown Gulmit, Gojal, Thursday night. He was 45.
Mr. Hameed, who also happened to be a businessman, reportedly suffered from severe pain in his chest and went into unconsciousness at his home. He was rushed to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Gulmit, where he was pronounced dead. His funeral was held in the presence of hundreds of people on Friday morning. He is survived by his wife and four children: two daughters and two sons.

Mr. Hameed was also a renowned artist, musician, actor and a professional photographer and filmmaker. He came to the limelight after he made a documentary about the Attabad landslide disaster that took place on Jan. 4, 2010. He and his team played crucial role in bringing issues stemming from the disaster to the limelight. He also played a character in Hollywood film “The Kite Runner.”

Mr. Hameed got trainings in media from the Interactive Resource Center (IRC), Lahore, and Karakoram Area Development Organization (KADO), Hunza. His documentaries on a wide assortment of issues garnered the interests of different TV channels. Mountain TV team extends it condolences to the family members of late Abdul Hameed. May his soul rest in eternal peace (ameen).
