He stated this while attending a briefing session regarding the activities of GLOF project in Chitral. The briefing session was also attended by local elite and representatives of different government and non-governmental organizations. Hameed Ahmed Mir, Field Manager GLOF project, briefed the MPA about the project as well as the threats of GLOF in different parts of the district. While commenting on the achievements of the project, Sardar Hussain said the achievements of Pakistan GLOF-Project in reducing disaster risks to lives and properties of local communities were commendable. He said that Chitral was home to more than 500 glaciers and 200 glacial lakes and the presence of such a large number of glaciers and lakes coupled with the difficult topography and lack of needed resources further added to the vulnerability of the district to different types of disasters in general and Glacial Lakes Outburst Floods in particular. Since the project was excelling in its pilot valley, the project needed to expand its activities to other GLOF prone areas in Chitral as well, the MPA suggested.
