Moon sighting: Pakistan to celebrate Eid on Tuesday

KARACHI: The Shawwal moon has been sighted in the country and Eid will be celebrated on Tuesday July 29, 2014, Express News reported on Monday.

Eid marks the end of holy month of Ramazan for Muslims worldwide and will be celebrated in Pakistan on Tuesday.

The various zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees had convened a meeting to sight the moon in major cities of the country while the Central Ruet-e-Hilal committee meeting was held at the Meteorological office in Karachi.

Ruet-e-Hilal committee chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman said that the sky was overcast in many parts of the country on Monday. However, they had received testimonies of the moon being sighted were received from Nawabshah, Sukkur, Thatta, Jacobabad, Pasni, Jiwani, Umerkot, Zhob and Badin on the basis of which the central Ruet-e-Hilal committee announced that Eid will be celebrated on Tuesday.

Shortly after news broke of the Eid moon being sighted, celebratory aeirial gunfire was heard in various parts of Karachi.

Eid congregations will be held at open places‚ mosques and Eidgahs in all major cities of the country.

As Eid is being celebrated in the backdrop of operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan and Israeli aggression in Gaza, special prayers would be offered for the well-being of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) and security of Palestinian people.

Prayers would also be offered for security, progress and prosperity of the country.

Meanwhile‚ security has been beefed up in different parts of the country including the federal capital to avoid any untoward incident on the auspicious occasion.
