LAHORE – The working committee of the Kashmir Action Committee says the UN secretary general’s mediation offer for an amicable settlement of the Kashmir dispute between Pakistan and India is a welcome gesture that must be accepted by both the countries.

At a meeting held under the chairmanship of Justice (r) Sharif Hussain Bokhari, the committee requested the leadership of Gilgit-Baltistan to desist from demanding province’s status for the area as it would provide India with a justification to divide occupied Jammu and Kashmir and annex some parts of it with the Indian Union. The status of the state of Jammau and Kashmir, including Gilgit-Baltistan, is yet to be determined by the Kashmiri people in the light of the UN resolutions, said the KAC statement issued after the meeting.

According to information gathered by Outpost, the committee supported the Dec 11 AJK Legislative Assembly resolution that G-B assembly’s call for a province’s status to Gilgit-Baltistan was unconstitutional and unwise.
