Islamabad: Chaudhary Birjees Tahir, Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs today told a Senate Standing Committee that the Karakuram Highway has been closed for traffic due to threats received from the Kohistan area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa after the Rawalpindi carnage.
He said that new police posts should be established along the sensitive sections of the 1300 kilometers long Karakuram Highway and the number of forces patrolling the highway should be increased. Similar demands were also put forth by the GB Home Department.
Chaudhary informed the Senate Standing Committee that Four alleged “Master Minds” behind the Nanga Parbat base camp massacre and six alleged terrorists involved in killing of Army and police personnel in Chilas have been arrested.
He added that the arrested people belong to the Diamer District of Gilgit-Baltistan and the neighboring Kohistan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa province.
