Gilgit, December 23: Thousands of people attended the Azmat-e- Sahaba wa Ahl-e-Bait and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Conference (Glory of the Companions and Family of the Holy Prophet and Stability of Pakistan) held in Gilgit city today. The conference was organized by Ahl-e-Sunnat wal Jamat. Chief of the ASWJ, Maulana Ahmed Ludhianvi addressed the thousands of people who had gathered in Gilgit from different parts of the Gilgit-Baltistan address.

In his speech Ludhianvi said that Pakistan had been created in the name of Islam and that his organization was struggling to enforce Islamic law in the country. He said that conspiracies are being hatched against Islam in Pakistan. He said that he would raise voice for the rights of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The gathering was also addressed by Qazi Nisar, Maulana Luqman Hakim, Maulana Abdul Sami, Maulana Khalil Qasmi and othe scholars and leaders of the ASWJ Gilgit-Baltistan and Kohistan. They criticized the presidential package given to the Gilgit-Baltistan region, calling for its abolition.

The speakers also said that using foul language and bad words against the Sahaba and Ahl-e-Bait should be made illegal as this is causing animosity among the Muslims and triggering violence in different parts of the country.

Strict security measures had been put in place for protecting the thousands of participants who had come out to listen to their leaders.

The latest mammoth gathering in Gilgit is the third of its kind held in Gilgit-Baltistan during the last two months. Since late October, a number of politico-religious organizations, including the Majlis-e-Wehdatul Muslimeen (MWM) and the Jamat-e-Islami have held huge gatherings in different parts of the region.

One thing that is common between these gatherings is that despite of their diverging, often colliding, political and religious views and orientations, all three organizations mentioned above have asserted confidence in Pakistan and called for unity for the cause of Pakistan. Leaders of all three politico-religious groups have also promised to raised their voices for the rights of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
