GB council meets to discuss logging policy

ISLAMABAD, Jan 15 (APP): The Gilgit Baltistan Council met on Wednesday under the Chairmanship of Governor Gilgit Baltistan Pir Karam Ali Shah to discuss policy for logging. The police is being formulate on the directive of the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Chairman of Gilgit Baltistan. The members of the Council expressed their views on sustainable forest management, legal framework for private forest management, mechanism for commercial harvesting and transportation of Timber-1970 regulation, ban on commercial exploitation of forests, Adhoc Timber disposal policies, National Forest Policy 200 and current state of affairs, says a press release.

 

Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan, Ch. Barjees Tahir said the PML (N) government believes in merit and follows transparency in its policies, accordingly.
Governor Gilgit Baltistan stressed the need for formulating a policy that could benefit both the land owners and the general public.
The Members of the Council unanimously passed a resolution to express gratitude to Prime Minister for holding the meeting of GB Council at Gilgit and giving directives to Federal Government for increasing the Development Budget ofGilgit Baltistan, finalize procurement of land for Diamir Bhasha power project, establishment of Cordiac Hospital in Gilgit, well-equipped police force to be raised in Gilgit Baltistan for the protection of Kara Highway (KKH).
The members of the  GB Council also welcomed the decision of government to Induct Army officers of Balochistan province.
The GB Council passed a resolution that a similar policy be adopted for Government servant of Gilgit Baltistan.
