Breastfeeding awareness campaign launched

CHITRAL: An awareness campaign was launched on Sunday by the health department to portray the importance of breastfeeding.

In this regard, a walk was held which was led by district health officer Dr. Israrullah and district coordinator of health workers programme Dr. Ibrahim Khan. The walk started from Zhang Bazaar and terminated at polo ground in which hundreds of members of different civil society organizations participated. They were carrying placards and banners signifying breastfeeding and chanting slogans to catch the attention of the people. A seminar was also held in the district health office. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Israrullah, Dr. Ibrahim Khan, Dr. Gulzar Ahmed and others highlighted the importance of breastfeeding and enumerated its advantages and described in detail. They said that breast milk was the purest food for a newborn which prevents the babe from many diseases while the artificial formula has been found to be disastrous for the health of both mother and the infant. They said that sudden infant death syndrome have been recorded at its minimal level where breastfeeding is a common practice and the modern science has abundantly proved that its value and worth. They added that the breast milk also saves the children from diabetes, mental disorder, allergy and child obesity throughout their lives which makes the breastfeeding unavoidable for sound health.– Zahiruddin
