Gilgit, January 24: Protecting the lives and resources of the people is the government’s prime responsibility and no stone will be left unturned in pursuit of this objective. Gilgit-Baltistan can be saved from the new wave of terror through better planning and coordination.
These views were expressed by Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Syed Mehdi Shah, today while chairing a meeting attended by senior administration officials, including Chief Secretary Younus Dagha.
Mehdi Shah instructed the law enforcing authorities to tighten up security on the entry and exit points of Gilgit-Baltistan and enhance scrutiny of non-local people in the region. He also said that the security of the Gilgit jail needs to be enhanced.
A news item that appeared in a local newspaper about a suspected terror plot involving security official (s) was rubbished by officials during the meeting.
Important parts of the Gilgit city will be monitored through Close-Circuit Cameras (CCTV), to keep an eye on the movement of suspicious elements, the meeting was told by officials.
Fears of insecurity have increased in Gilgit-Baltistan as a result of a fresh wave of violence in different parts of the country in the recent days. There are reports of the federal government’s intentions to a launch a major military offensive against militants.PT
