The special flight, the fourth so far, landed in Lahore on Tuesday afternoon. This brings the total number of Pakistanis so far evacuated from Libya to 970.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, said that special chartered flights were being arranged since the national flag carrier is preoccupied with Hajj operations.

These special chartered flights will likely run on a daily basis for the next ten days.

The number of Pakistanis at the relief camps set up by the embassy in Tripoli have swelled to over 3,000 nationals, the statement added.

Over 6,000 Pakistanis have been severely affected by the current spate of instability and violence in Libya, and the Overseas Pakistani Foundation has been advised to facilitate the arrival of the evacuated, and provide them all support for onward travel.

Pakistan had also requested the International Organisation for Migration to help evacuate stranded citizens in Libya.

On Monday, the Libyan government admitted it had lost control of Tripoli.(AFP)
